Flying the Tyrant Saddam Hussein | My Story
Mohammed Sulaiman was the son of a distinguished military officer of Saddam Hussein and the Iraq Air Force. He grew up one day wanting to follow his father's footsteps and fly. He graduated flight training and his experience resulted in him becoming a member of the Iraq elite VIP Squadron. It wasn't long before he became the pilot of Saddam and his family.
In this episode, Mohammed shares how he became Saddam's pilot and how he was in Baghdad at the military airport in a bunker during Desert Storm when all of the aircraft was destroyed by US bombing raids. He shares how things changed in that country and how his life was in danger, before escaping to America where he's raised his four children and has enjoyed the American Dream.

EP-351 | Veterans Day - A World War 1 Story
Thursday Nov 09, 2023
Thursday Nov 09, 2023
Veterans Day - World War I
Larry Freeland is a U.S. Army veteran from the Vietnam War whose father served in WW2 and Korea and a grandfather who served as a doughboy in World War I in Europe. In this episode Larry talks mostly about his grandfather and the stories that he overheard he and his grandfathers veteran friends sharing while playing poker every week.
He also talks about his grandfather protesting following WW1 in Washington D.C. as part of the Bonus Expedition Forces (BEF) and how the President and government at that time turned against the crowds of veterans who protested.
A great listen with it being close to Veterans Day as a reminder of the hardships many veterans who've returned from war have endured.

EP-350 | Healing From War Part II
Friday Nov 03, 2023
Friday Nov 03, 2023
This is part two on the topic of healing from the trauma of war. The previous episode is 349. If you haven't listened to that one first, it would probably help to start there.
Welcome back to a new episode of Mentors4mil. We're happy that you're here. On this episode, Phil and Jared discuss several topics and answer your questions regarding the use of Psychedelics to help with post traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries.
Jared Rinehart is a former U.S. Marine as an infantryman from 2006 to 2011, and separated as a sergeant. In 2013, he became a contractor and protected a base in the southern province of Afghanistan where he saw a lot combat.
Phil Sussman is a former U.S. Army cavalry and civil affairs officer who saw the trauma of war from his three deployments and he spent a total of 10 years in service.
Both share their own personal experiences, the challenges of using psychedelics as part of the healing process and having to face their demons, how the process shouldn't be taken lightly, and how it's helped them in their healing journey. It's not the destination, it's part of the journey.
The FDA designated MDMA and psilocybin as "breakthrough therapies" in 2017, which expedites the study and development of drugs that "may demonstrate substantial improvement over available therapy." The Veteran Affairs continues to research opportunities to aid in those struggling with PTSD.
Please see our show disclaimer regarding this content. This episode and the second part are meant to share personal stories of two individuals and to describe/share treatments our veterans are seeking as part of their healing process.

In this episode (Part 1 of 2) Jared and Phil join us to discuss how veterans are now turning to psychedelics to help them heal from the trauma of war. After experiencing the positive effects of psychodelics himself during a trip to Peru, Jared knew this was his purpose: to help others like himself overcome the demons he knew too well. Both share their own personal experiences, the challenges of using psychedelics as part of the healing process and having to face their demons, how the process shouldn't be taken lightly, and how it's helped them in their healing journey. EP-347 | Warrior Training Center - Fast Tracking
Somewhat unknown and hidden within Fort Moore (aka Fort Benning) is the Army National Guard's Warrior Training Center (WTC). The ARNG Warrior Training Center trains Service Members in critical functional skills, develops leaders, and represents the ARNG in order to increase the Federal and State operational readiness of the ARNG.
In this episode, we dive into the Ranger Training Assessment Course, a precursor for those who are wanting to attend Ranger School, with Cpl LeShane, an instructor and former student of the program. He provides all of the details of how to attend this course and how some have also returned to become instructors full-time.

EP-346 | A New Army Fitness Test?
Tuesday Sep 12, 2023
Tuesday Sep 12, 2023
Army Fitness - Change is Coming: Will They Get it Right This Time?
Through the years, the U.S. Army has modified how it performs fitness and tests soldiers to succeed in combat. The Army Combat Fitness Test could change - again - if the Senate Armed Services Committee's markup of next year's defense budget is passed. The final version of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act still needs to make its way through both chambers of Congress before being signed by the president.
The guys discuss this topic.

EP-344 | 75th Ranger Regiment Low Density MOS’
Tuesday Aug 15, 2023
Tuesday Aug 15, 2023
Within 75th Ranger Regiment there are many military occupational skills that are supporting roles known as "low density". Although many are within the Regimental Special Troops Battalion (RSTB) at Fort Moore (aka Ft. Benning), there are also opportunities to join units within each battalion. We sat down with six non-commissioned officers in the Darby Room of the 75th Ranger Regiment HQ.
RSTB provides the 75th Ranger Regiment and U.S. Army Special Operations Command with increased operational capabilities to sustained combat operations. RSTB conducts command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance functions in support of the 75th Ranger Regiment and other special operation task forces in order to enable the execution of joint special operations anywhere in the world. Additionally, RSTB provides qualified, trained and ready Rangers to sustain the Ranger Force.
The 75th Ranger Regiment is a lethal, agile and flexible force, capable of conducting many complex, joint special operations missions. Today's Ranger regiment is the Army's premier direct-action raid force. Each of the four geographically dispersed Ranger battalions is always combat ready, mentally and physically tough, and prepared to fight our country's adversaries. Their capabilities include conducting airborne and air assault operations, seizing key terrain such as airfields, destroying strategic facilities, and capturing or killing enemies of the nation. Rangers are capable of conducting squad through regimental-size operations and are resourced to maintain exceptional proficiency, experience and readiness. The regiment remains an all-volunteer force with an intensive screening and selection process followed by combat-focused training. The 75th Ranger Regiment is a proud unit and a team of teams - serving the nation.
