Two soldiers from the U.S. Army National Guard Warrior Training Center will be competing in the 2024 Best Ranger Competition (BRC) to be held 12-14 April 2024. A two-person team that has made the cut of 50 where one team will be named the winners and become BEST RANGER!
The 2024 Best Ranger Competition, is the 40th annual celebration of this grueling competition, starring the best soldiers of the world, our United States Army, RANGERS! From the very beginning, the objective was clear: the competition should place extreme demands on each buddy teams’ physical, mental, technical and tactical skills as Rangers. The standards of performance were to test the mettle of those Ranger-qualified Soldiers who dared to compete.
Join us in this conversation with two warriors who will be laying everything on the line to be called "Best Ranger" in 2024. They share their Army journey to this point and then discuss what they do to train for this demanding competition.

Welcome to the latest episode of Mentors for Military Podcast where we are joined by Command Sergeant Major Daniel L. Pinion. A veteran of several historic military operations including the Cold War, Operation Joint Endeavor and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Sgt. Major Pinion offers a compelling narrative of his experiences on the field and as a military leader.
Over his 28-year career, Sgt. Major Pinion has served in a host of leadership positions. His firsthand experiences bring to life the stories of courage, sacrifices and resilience of the soldiers he served with. Now a Department of the Army Civilian in Virginia, he continues his commitment to service but from a different perspective.
Our conversation also covers his recently released book, "Chop That Sh*t Up". A tribute to our brave soldiers, the book encapsulates the trials and tribulations, the shocking and inspiring stories from their deployments in Iraq and elsewhere.
His personal journey, the struggles with depression, PTSD, and the emotional toll of losing soldiers are candidly put forth. Included are his vivid accounts from Ramadi, Iraq, when his unit faced the nearly insurmountable task of making one of the world's most dangerous cities a safer place. Dr. Kate Pate is a neurophysiologist who has been conducting research for 15 years in a variety of different areas, including neurotrauma, respiratory neurobiology, mental health, redox biology, and combat trauma.
Traumatic brain injuries are more frequent in the military these days. The The military health system statistical data states that between 2020 and 2nd quarter of 2023, the U.S. military saw approximately 486,000 cases of traumatic brain injury of which 82.2% experienced a mild traumatic brain injury (concussion), 11.3% experienced a mild TBI, 1% experienced a severe TBI, while 1.2% experienced a penetrating TBI.
