EP-255 | Functional Medicine
Tuesday Oct 20, 2020
Tuesday Oct 20, 2020
Functional medicine is a form of alternative medicine whose proponents claim that it focuses on the "root causes" of diseases based on interactions between the environment and the gastrointestinal, endocrine, and immune systems to develop "individualized treatment plans". In some circles it is described as a pseudoscience or as quackery. However, functional medicine is gaining traction, especially within the veteran community, who continue to look for alternative solutions over traditional medicine.
Dr. Alec Weir is a physician who is board-certified in Emergency Medicine as well as emergency medical services. He is a doctor, a police officer on his local SWAT team, and a member of Global Surgical and Medical Support Group (GSMSG), a team that provides medical services around the world. He also does work with the veteran focused Hunter Seven Foundation, an organization focused on the effects and treatment of veterans and active duty personnel who had exposure of toxic burn pits while deployed.

EP-254 | Nick Dunn - Chennai Six - Surviving Hel
Tuesday Oct 13, 2020
Tuesday Oct 13, 2020
Nick Dunn served as a member of the British Army Parachute Regiment. After service he became a maritime security guard on British vessels employed to protect them against Somali pirates. In October 2013, he and the crew of the British merchant ship MV Seaman Guard Ohio were intercepted off the Indian coast accused of being illegally armed in Indian waters. It was all a big misunderstanding, but it took years in an Indian prison and countless times in court before he was released. The group was coined the ‘Chennai Six’ by UK tabloids and campaigners.

160th SOAR(A) medics are the premier provider of in-flight trauma/resuscitative care because of their training pipeline.
Ricky Ditzel joined the US Army with plans to join the US Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, but something happened that changed those plans. Years later, he applied for the 160th SOAR(A) medical section as a Special Operations Flight Medic (SOFM). He shares the journey to becoming a medic in 160th SOAR(A), his current plans of becoming a neuro-surgeon, and then we dive into concussions and traumatic brain injury.

EP-245 | We Need to Talk About it - Veteran Suicide
Wednesday Aug 12, 2020
Wednesday Aug 12, 2020
Byron, Ryan, and Robert discuss the concerns they all share on the alarming number of veteran suicides, especially within the last twelve months. Veteran suicide continues to climb despite the best efforts by the veterans administration or the thousands of nonprofits focused on post traumatic stress, military sexual trauma, and suicide prevention.
More troops have died by suicide from 2005-2017 than the total number of US troops who died in 30 years of war in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The suicide hotline number is 1-800-273-8255.
