EP-227 | The Battle of Shok Valley | Matt Williams, Medal of Honor
SGM Matthew Williams, a 3rd Special Forces Group operations sergeant, graduated from Angelo State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Driven to serve, Williams enlisted into the Army under the 18X Special Forces enlistment program in September 2005.
On 6 April 2008, ODA 3336 was on a mission to capture or kill high-value targets of the Hezeb Islami al Gulbadin in Shok Valley, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan. The events of that mission is where weapons sergeant Matt Williams and Ron Shurer (medic/18D) distinguished themselves and were later awarded the Medal of Honor.
Matt talks about the events of that day, the mentors he had, and the lessons he learned as a leader that he shares with his men today.
